Thank yo for your interest in becoming a coach or chaperon with USA Ultimate. The process can be a little confusing and this document will hopefully help you through the process. 

There are some expenses involved with becoming a coach, but be sure to keep your receipts and Cache Valley Ultimate will reimburse you. 

Getting Started

1. The first thing you need to do is purchase a USA Ultimate Membership. Follow the membership instructions on this page. You can purchase any type of membership and get the the coach certification with it. If you do not play frisbee, we recommend purchasing the  “Non-player” membership for the state of Utah:
   (you can then choose 1,3 or 5 years. 
2. Once you have your membership, you now have a USA Ultimate Account ID that you can send to send to the coach or coordinator to add you to the team you are helping. 
3. Next, the first step to become either a coach or a chaperone is to start a background check and complete the 3 required SafeSpirt training modules: 
   
4. Once those are complete you are ready to be a chaperone! 

Become a Foundational Coach

Once you have completed the steps above you can complete the steps to become a foundation coach which is required to help coach and from there you can also go on to get a coach certification. Here are the steps to do so: 

1. From your membership page, click “Become a Coach”:
   
2. This will take you to a page that lists the requirements for completing the Foundational Coach certification. That includes some additional training: 
   
   1. CDC Concussion Training,
   2. Watch the Foundational Coaching videos. 
3. Once you have completed all of the above requirements, go to “Clinics” and register for the 2022 Foundational Coach Test.

Get a Coach Certification

Once you have completed your foundational coach test, you can sign up for additional coaching certifications. Those certifications can be taken online through USA Ultimate or in-person clinics are occasionally held in Cache Valley.
