Scorch C and D TeamsValley-Wide Scorch Team

What is Cache Valley Scorch?

The Scorch is a competitive middle school organization that goes beyond just the middle school leagues that Cache Valley Ultimate organizes. They will compete against other middle school teams around the state at a couple of tournaments in October and November.

The team is coached by Bob Ward, a veteran player and parent/coach, as well as Alan Barker, Brian Phillips and Stu Baggaley, who all have children playing on multiple teams and levels. We will need several parents to register as ‘chaperones’. A chaperone is a responsible adult, in addition to the coaches, who can be at the tournaments.

We hope to instill the principles of hard work and sportsmanship at early ages and hope this can help them in and outside of sports, throughout their lives. We believe the principles we play by are more important than the outcome of the games and that players should never compromise their integrity to try and win.

Our middle school program is one of the best in the state and Scorch Teams have been the state Champions for the last two years.

While this is the “competitive” division of CVU ultimate, all are welcome to come to practices and participate. The main goal of Cache Valley ultimate is always spirit of the game. Each year typically has a fall and spring season.

Fall Season XYZ

We use the fall season as a developmental season and teams are divided in X/Y/Z format where advanced and beginners play together on equal strength teams.

Spring Season ABC

During spring season, we divide players into teams based on ability with a goal of winning the state championship. The ‘A’ Team typically features the older more experienced players.  C/D teams consist primarily of younger newer players.

WHO CAN JOIN THE SCORCH?

Any youth from 6th to 8th grade that is wanting to dedicate more time to ultimate in a more competitive setting. It’s great preparation for competitive ultimate in high school. Everyone is welcome to come to practice, regardless of ability or experience, even if they won’t compete at tournaments.

My son/daughter has never played ultimate before, can they still participate?

Yes. Anyone who is willing to put in the time and effort is welcome to join.

When are practices?

Practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:30 pm, beginning April 11th (If the snow is gone). Practices will be held at the fields behind the church at 1550 N 400 E in North Logan. If you are driving from a further distance and will be a little late, that is okay.

Are there different teams for boys and girls?

No, boys and girls play together on the same teams in the middle school divisions.

How many can play on the field at the same time?

Typically the youth games are 5 vs 5.

What is the cost to participate on the Scorch team?

Please note that you don’t have to pay anything if you just want to practice. The costs to participate will be the cost of the jersey, the tournament fees, and the cost of a USA Ultimate membership. None of the fees remain with CVU. If anyone needs help with costs, please let us know. You don’t have to play in the tournaments in order to come to practice! This spring the total cost to do everything will be $11. This is broken up with in the following way:

——————

You may pay the fee (for jerseys and tournaments) through Venmo to @cachevalleyultimate or cash or check to Cache Valley Ultimate. Some players  who paid for but did not play in the state tournament last fall can subtract $20 from their spring fees.

The $18 USAU fee is paid on your own when you make a USAU account  following these instructions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fDvLZrIlkE9_sm5tahc_QRcZG1gawuCZGdzRhePJkYc/edit?usp=sharing

Advanced players may also have opportunities to play in additional high school level tournaments at an additional cost.
